Ukrposhta asks the Universal Postal Union and member countries to impose sanctions against Russia in the field of philately

18.03.2022

Ukrposhta has turned to the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and its member countries with a request to impose sanctions against the Russian Post. Namely, to cancel the joint issues of stamps of Ukraine with Russia and Belarus and to re-elect the head of the World Association for the Development of Philately (WADP), which is headed by a representative of the aggressor country. This is stated in a letter that the company sent to the UPU.

"We ask the Universal Postal Union to apply sanctions to the Russian Post in order to limit propaganda through philately. We are withdrawing from sale and destroying the joint stamp issues with Russia and Belarus. This is a se-tenant of three stamps "50th Anniversary of the Liberation of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine from the Nazi invaders", put into circulation in 1994, and a postage block "1025 Years of the Baptism of Kievan Rus'", issued in 2013. We ask the UPU to withdraw these stamps from the international numbering system of the WADP. We also insist that the re-election of the head of the WADP be organized immediately, because such a representative post cannot be headed by a representative of a terrorist country. A terrorist state - because Russia launches rocket attacks on our peaceful settlements, kills Ukrainians with all possible kinds of heavy weapons, destroys the infrastructure of cities and villages, residential houses, damages energy facilities, which can cause terrible environmental disasters. And all this is presented to the world in the form of absurd propaganda of "demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine to protect Russia from threats," the letter says.

Ukrposhta also called on the UPU members to be in solidarity with Ukraine and not to produce any joint stamp issues with the Russian Post. The company invited all UPU member countries to dedicate one of its issues to Ukraine and its heroic struggle for its country. And also to implement in the future joint issues of postage stamps together with Ukraine as a part of the big Europe, which defends peace and European values by its struggle.
