Ukrainians have sent approximately 200,000 parcels to the USA by Ukrposhta after the change of American customs regulations beginning from late July.  The company in advance has updated the new system of international items’ registration in advance in order to move smoothly to new requirements without any interruption in customer’s delivery.

Since 24th of July, the United States has changed the procedure of customs duty calculating on commercial items. Instead of a single rate of 10%, its size now depends on the item category. For item registration, it is necessary to indicate 10-digits tariff code (Harmonized System Code). At the same time, the customs threshold has been increased from 800 USD to 2,500 USD.

Prior to new rules coming into force, Ukrposhta has updated the Personal Account, customs calculator and API, used by partners and Ukrainian on-line sellers. During items’ registration, the sender indicates goods description, HS tariff code, customs value and country of goods origin. By evaluating this data, the system defines the duty rate and the total amount of payments.    

Around 200,000 items have been already dispatched to the USA through Ukrposhta created according to the new rules.

The USA remains the largest and most demandable international destination of Ukrposhta in terms of the number of shipments.  Canada and Germany hold the list of TOP 3 export destinations together with the United States of America.

Delivery to the USA takes from 7 days and the PRIME rate for international items begins from 6 USD.

Due to the closure of Ukrainian airspace for civil aviation, international items are transported from Ukraine by surface means to the neighbouring airports of foreign partners, from where they go to their final destination. In such a way, Ukrposhta covers 159 air routes.

The next phase of changes to American customs regulations is tentatively expected on October 22, 2026. It will apply to some certain goods categories. Ukrposhta is preparing the system of mail registration for a new wave of changes in a duly way.
