With the proceeds from the sale of the “Battalion “Fluffy” charity stamp issue, Ukrposhta together with KSE Foundation donated UAH 1 000 000 to animal shelters and centres for protection, rehabilitation and foster care of pets – Best Friends in Makariv urban-type settlement and Gostomel Shelter in Hostomel urban-type settlement of Kyiv oblast. With the funds donated by Ukrposhta, Best Friends shelter in Makariv has already purchased a powerful generator to help the shelter survive the winter.

In times of war, pets, like people, face great challenges. Many Ukrainians are rescuing dogs and cats, evacuating them with their families or pulling them out of the rubble. However, not all pets find new homes – thousands remain on the streets, often injured or exhausted. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the number of stray pets has increased significantly and the animal shelters that take care of them are in dire need of help. “Winter is the most difficult time for pets and the shelters that protect them. We feel it is our responsibility to help those who are defenceless and need support in times of war. That is why the “Battalion “Fluffy” postal issue has a charitable purpose – the proceeds are used to help animal shelters. Thanks to the concern of Ukrainians who actively bought these stamps, we were able to provide substantial assistance. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who participated – you are saving the lives of four-legged friends!” – said Igor Smelyansky, Director General of Ukrposhta.

The “Battalion “Fluffy” charity postal issue was put into circulation on 26 September, 2024. The set consists of two stamps: The “Battalion “Fluffy. Cats” and “Battalion “Fluffy. Dogs”, which symbolise the unbreakable spirit of Ukrainian defenders and their four-legged friends who support the soldiers at the frontline.

Anyone can join the charity initiative today. By purchasing postage stamps at Ukrposhta offices or online at the Postal Market, every Ukrainian can help provide warm premises, food, treatment and vaccinations for pets living in shelters.

Ukrposhta also emphasises the importance of not only financial support, but also volunteering: you can become a foster carer, volunteer or even an adopter for a pet waiting for a home.
