About the Art Piece
Each administrative region of Ukraine on this map is embroidered with a traditional pattern characteristic of that area. Together, these individual designs come together into a vibrant and unified whole.
The artwork is accompanied by stamps from the Ukrainian Embroidery: The Code of a Nation series and their special cancellation marks. The embroidery of some regions, including the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea, recreates patterns featured on the stamps themselves.
The Story of the Artwork
The creation of the textile artwork Ukraine: Postal Routes of Unity began on Vyshyvanka Day, 15 May 2025. The first stitches were made by Ukrposhta’s CEO and the team at the company’s headquarters in Kyiv. From there, the regional pieces travelled across Ukraine, with colleagues from different parts of the country — and even members of their families — contributing to the embroidery.
Some people added just a few stitches or completed a small section, while others worked on entire ornaments. The artwork grew through many hands and many contributions, becoming a true collective creation.
Once all the embroidered regions were completed, they were returned to Kyiv, assembled into a map of Ukraine, and complemented with thematic stamps and special cancellation marks. The result is a colourful panel measuring 100 × 65 cm.
