Since April, Ukrposhta has sent about 3.6 million parcels by Ukrzaliznytsia's baggage cars as part of the joint project "Iron Post".

During the project period, most parcels were delivered to Kyiv from Lviv and Kharkiv - 42%, and from Kyiv to Lviv, Dnipro and Kharkiv - 38% of the total number of parcels. Also, many parcels were delivered from Kharkiv to Kyiv and Lviv.

"Since the launch, we have already transported 3.6 million parcels, and now the speed will be even faster thanks to additional cars with greater capacity. The main goal of the joint project with Ukrzaliznytsia is to deliver much-needed items to IDPs, local residents or to transport humanitarian cargo for volunteers on time. The volumes of shipments are constantly growing from month to month, so we are grateful that Ukrzaliznytsia has added more wagons to the busiest destinations," said Igor Smelyansky, CEO of Ukrposhta.

The cargoes are delivered by 15 railway cars. In addition to 12 cars that were involved in the transportation of parcels earlier, 3 more cars have been added to the busiest routes: between Kyiv and Lviv and between Lviv and Dnipro. These cars deliver mail from 6 cities of Ukraine - Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Odesa, Kharkiv and Dnipro to Kyiv and back.

"The tandem with Ukrposhta proved to be very successful and efficient. Every day, 12 postal cars of Ukrzaliznytsia transported shipments to different cities of Ukraine, and thousands of Ukrposhta offices received and delivered them to addressees. Now the fleet of postal cars has been replenished by 3 more units of rolling stock. They will run on the busiest routes," said Oleksandr Kamyshin.

Two of the three cars added to the routes are converted from refrigerators and will be able to carry up to 3000 items per trip. The third car with a capacity of approximately 2100 items is a modernized baggage car. All work on the re-equipment of cars for the transportation of mail was carried out at Ukrzaliznytsia's own facilities: two were made at the Kovel depot, another one - at the Synelnykiv depot.

From the beginning of the project and until September 11, 1555 flights were made and their number doubled, if we compare the ratio of flights made in April to August. Also, the number of shipments in August almost doubled compared to April.

Ukrposhta delivers the goods that arrived by rail to the final destination by mainline vehicles.

"Railway Post" delivers humanitarian cargoes. They are accepted only in those offices that are located near the central railway stations. Humanitarian cargo can be arranged for departure from Lviv (branch 79023), Kyiv (branch 02505), Dnipro (branch 49501), Odesa (branch 65501) and Kharkiv (branch 61501). Or you can arrange the shipment in the "personal account" on the Ukrposhta website.

There is a special tariff for humanitarian goods. The cost of one shipment weighing up to 30 kg and the longest side up to 70 cm is 25 UAH. This is the minimum cost that will be spent on the preparation and maintenance of the mail car. Parcels with military themes (helmets, bulletproof vests, load-bearing vests, etc.), as well as medicines and medical supplies can be sent free of charge.

However, if the volunteers are not able to pay for the parcels, the parcels will be accepted free of charge and the cost of delivery will be covered by charitable funds. Payment at the expense of the recipient is not possible.

The period of storage of the parcel in the city of destination is up to 14 days. After that, if the recipient has not picked up the parcels, the Ukrposhta passes them to volunteer organizations and foundations. Please note that the Ukrposhta reserves the right to take care of the parcels and if the parcels contain not charitable but commercial cargo, such parcels will also be transferred to volunteer organizations with which the Ukrposhta cooperates.

It should be reminded that Ukrposhta together with Ukrzaliznytsia launched a joint project in April this year and after 21 years of break resumed the delivery of parcels by rail.
