Ukrposhta issued an artistic envelope for the 25th anniversary of UFW

07.09.2022

On September 7 Ukrposhta presented an envelope dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Ukrainian Fashion Week.

The author of the artistic envelope was Ukrainian artist Zinaida Kubar. She was also the author of the postage stamp issued by Ukrposhta in 2017 for the 20th anniversary of Ukrainian Fashion Week.

The envelope is decorated with a fragment of the performance "Kalyna" (viburnum) by Ukrainian artist Zinaida Kubar. It was this performance that the artist presented in New York in 2017 as part of her debut exhibition "4.5.0". The viburnum symbolizes a woman's destiny, the necklace symbolizes her soul. A girl, instead of a necklace, wears the fate of the times, because it was war that brought to our land the loss of mothers of their sons, women of men, and young girls of future bridegrooms. As part of the performance, even today, the necklace "cried" on the envelope, and in this way the artist emphasized the tragedy of war, which Ukraine has experienced for 8 years in a row.

Complementing the composition is a photo of the destroyed part of Kiev (Sofiivska Borshchagivka). The photo was taken by Sergiy Mykhalchuk, a well-known cameraman and photographer, and now a member of the AFU military, who from February 25 to April 4 recorded the consequences of Russia's full-scale invasion and aggression.

"Kalyna's performance piece, pictured on the envelope for the 25th anniversary of Ukrainian Fashion Week, opened the 2017 New York 4.5.0 exhibition. The idea behind the performance was to show the beauty and drama of our land. In 2022, as part of my work on the envelope sketch, I specifically returned to the 2017 performance and supplemented it with current photos of today to show everyone that although the Ukrainian soul's crimson necklace is crying again, this is just another round of war, which began much earlier than February 24" - Zinaida Kubar.

"Ukrposhta has repeatedly turned to the fashion theme, creating postage stamps and envelopes. So on the one hand the envelope for the 25th anniversary of UFW is not an exception, but on the other hand the circumstances make this collaboration unique. We supported the idea with the Kalyna performance, with which the Ukrainian artist represented Ukraine in New York back in 2017, to show that the Ukrainians have been living with the pain of war for 8 consecutive years. And the fragments of mangled Kiev show that since February 24, there is more grief and reason for bloody tears - they are in every city. This is the content that Ukrainian designers deliver from the catwalks of the world fashion capitals, and which we, due to the popularity of Ukrainian wartime philately, would also like to deliver to the world", - commented Igor Smelyansky, Director General of Ukrposhta.

The envelope in honor of the 25th anniversary of Ukrainian Fashion Week is a symbol of unity and support. In this envelope you can send a letter with words of sympathy or gratitude. Or to keep it as a memento of those war times, which we passed with dignity and confidence.

The circulation of the envelope is 100 thousand copies, which can be purchased both in the online marketplace of Ukrposhta and in the branches of the postal operator.
