27.06.2024

On 27 June, Ukrposhta presented a new postal issue Taxes. Army. Victory, which consists of two stamps of different face values – U and A. The issue is a part of the All-Ukrainian information campaign Our Taxes Are Our Defence! that emphasizes the importance of taxes for strengthening our Army and achieving our Victory.

The special cancellation ceremony, which took place at the Main Post Office, was attended by: Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, Ukrposhta CEO Igor Smelyansky, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy Danylo Hetmantsev, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy Lebedenko and Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko.

"We are grateful to all taxpayers, conscientious and honest Ukrainian businesses. Those who have saved and created jobs, support our army and invest in Ukraine. Every hryvnia of taxes paid by businesses to the central budget is used by the Government to defend our country. I am grateful to everyone who works for a strong Ukraine and our European future," Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal commented.

Because of the full-scale war unleashed by russia, the bulk of Ukraine's state budget is allocated to national security and defense. In his speech, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the salary of one military serviceman is covered by the taxes of 6-8 working Ukrainians. This means that defense capability of Ukraine depends on its people: by working and paying taxes, every Ukrainian contributes to the defense of Ukraine and its financial stability.

"We named the new postal issue "Taxes. Army. Victory" because these components are an integral parts of the state. And everyone should understand this simple truth," Ukrposhta CEO Igor Smelyansky said. "Having adopted the best practices of other countries, we believe that we are taking the right steps today to make it cool not only to donate but also to pay taxes in Ukraine. We start with ourselves. From the sale of stamps only, Ukrposhta will transfer an additional UAH 120 million to the state budget this and next year. Buy stamps and support our Army!"

The first stamp depicts one-hryvnia NBU coin, which is transformed into a cartridge case on the second stamp. The design on the stamps conveys the message well: every hryvnia from the state budget can strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities and stop the enemy. The background of the stamps shows working factories, enterprises and people who are the foundation that holds the country together, while on the right, Ukrainian soldiers attacking the enemy and aircraft flying above the clouds to protect the defenders from the air.

Danylo Hetmantsev, Head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation and Customs Policy, added:

"In times of war, the highest manifestation of patriotism for businesses and citizens on the home front is paying taxes. Our Army is financed exclusively by the taxes we collect, and taxes turn into a weapon that protects us from the enemy."

The postal issue "Taxes. Army. Victory" is presented in the form of a se-tenant pair. One stamp bears the image of 1-hryvnia NBU coin and has an additional perforation in the form of a circle. The face value of the stamp is U (corresponds to the tariff for sending domestic ordinary letters without declared value weighing up to 50 g and postcards, equivalent to UAH 15.00). The second stamp features a cartridge case. The face value of the stamp is A (corresponds to the tariff for sending to foreign countries a postcard weighing up to 20 g (USD 1.00). The circulation of the se-tenant is 210,000 copies. The number of se-tenants in one sheet is 3 (6 stamps). The stamps are decorated with selective varnishing.
